Jon Moxley Had To Change Storyline Plans After CM Punk Vacated AEW World Title

During AEW Dynamite this week, Tony Khan announced a tournament to crown a new AEW World Champion after Punk was stripped of the title. It was announced that Jon Moxley would be part of the tournament in the semi-finals. Jericho is in the semi-finals as well.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Jon Moxley had to change plans in order to be part of the tournament. This is because AEW called him and Chris Jericho and requested them to be there.

Moxley had an entire storyline that had nothing to do with the championship or anything like that. He was gonna be off. He even mentioned on TV that he was going on a vacation. The storyline had to be thrown out, because him and Jericho, who was also not booked on the show this week, they were both called and told ‘the show that we had and the stars that we had — we had 4 main stars who are not on the show this week and we need you back.’ There was a team meeting before the show, and unity and everything like that.

CM Punk was also removed from AEW Dynamite’s opening video, and he wasn’t mentioned at all during the show. We will have to wait and see who will become the new AEW World Champion.
