Cody Rhodes was on an incredible hot streak during his WWE return. Then an injury put him on the sidelines. Rhodes hyped Money in the Bank, and even appeared in the event’s commercial, but he had to watch the event from home. Even if he was at the show, it wouldn’t have been the American Nightmare’s night.

We exclusively reported that Austin Theory was always the winner of the Men’s Money in the Bank match. Many were under the assumption that Cody Rhodes was set to win the match, but that wasn’t the case.

Ringside News was told by a tenured member of the creative team that, “If Cody was penciled in to win, it was before Vince let anyone know what the plans were.” Vince McMahon could have any number of ideas in his head, but it was never voiced to anyone that Cody Rhodes was going to win the Money in the Bank contract.

Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn, and Bruce Prichard are really the only people who know about creative plans before they are presented to the creative team. As we previously reported, talent was not informed of match finishes until the morning of the show.

We will all be patiently waiting for Cody Rhodes’ WWE return. You never know if Money in the Bank might work out for him next year, but the briefcase was always going to Austin Theory in Las Vegas.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
