John Cena returned during this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. WWE ran a couple of pre-recorded video messages from current superstars and also veterans. This included AEW stars Paul Wight, Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson.

Danielson was billed as Daniel Bryan and Paul Wight as Big Show. WWE contacted Tony Khan for permission to use them for the videos, and Khan gave them the green signal.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE also contacted AEW about a Mark Henry video for the episode. The video was reportedly recorded ahead of the show, but it is not known why Henry didn’t appear during the show.

The basic story behind this is that on 6/24, Bruce Prichard called Khan and asked about having clips from those three guys as well as Mark Henry for Raw for Cena’s 20th anniversary. Khan felt that it sounded like they were doing a good show and it was a nice deal, and that he and everyone has a lot of respect for Cena.

Henry had a memorable feud with John Cena back in 2013, so his inclusion would have been a much-needed one. Regardless, John Cena’s next match might be awhile as well.
