AEW had big plans for Bryan Danielson at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Tony Khan was hoping to book Danielson in what would be a technical wrestling masterclass against Zack Sabre Jr. Unfortunately, The American Dragon announced on last night’s Dynamite that he will not be medically cleared to wrestle.

Danielson promised fans big surprise as his replacement. It appears the Blackpool Combat Club will be getting a new member. Still, many fans are dying to see Danielson take on Sabre.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that a bout between Bryan Danielson and Zack Sabre Jr. was still likely to happen. Once Danielson has recovered and is cleared to wrestle, the dream match will eventually go down. It is just a matter of finding the right time and place.

“I mean, the guy should’ve still done a promo. Even if it’s just a promo about, ‘I’ll get you someday, Bryan Danielson,’ and we tease it because we’re going to get the match. I mean, the Bryan Danielson – Zack Sabre match, which is like a legitimate dream match. We are going to get that match at some point, whether it’s this year, whether it’s the Tokyo Dome, whether it’s at a pay-per-view, at All Out, perhaps. So, start the promo for it now. I mean, that’s what I would’ve done.”

Forbidden Door has been plagued by unfortunate injuries and bad timing. CM Punk’s injury as well as Bryan Danielson being on the shelf hurt the star power at the top of the card. Bryan taking on Zack would have been the type of match that could sell pay-per-views.

That match will happen eventually. It won’t be Sunday night in Chicago. Fans will have to buy the pay-per-view to find out who Danielson has in store as Zack Sabre Jr’s mystery opponent at Forbidden Door.
