WWE’s Backup Plan For Roman Reigns At SummerSlam

Roman Reigns has been dominant force in WWE as the Undisputed Universal Champion. The Head Of The Table has been infallible since 2020 and there are no signs of him stopping anytime soon. WWE also has a backup plan for Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

Randy Orton was written off WWE television after a vicious attack by The Usos back in May. This was so that he could deal with his persisting back injuries. Orton was as planned to square off against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE does have a plan B for Roman Reigns at SummerSlam, should Randy Orton not be able to compete.

Orton may need back surgery and those with knowledge of the situation said that the planned Reigns vs. Orton main event for 7/30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville is in jeopardy. There is a backup plan for Reigns but we were told at press time the plan was not Riddle. There are limited options, with Cody Rhodes also hurt. They can put anyone in there, but aside from Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley, or possibly Gunther, nobody besides Riddle seems even remotely ready for that level. I suppose he could destroy Omos, but Omos lost the feud with Lashley, not that it matters with WWE booking.

Matt Riddle is set to challenge Roman Reigns for his titles on this week’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown. Randy Orton could also miss out on the remainder of this year due to his injury. We’ll have to see who Roman Reigns will face at SummerSlam.
