Io Shirai was once a huge focus in NXT, but she hasn’t been seen in a while. There is a good reason for that, because the former NXT Women’s Champion is now injured.

According to a report from Fightful Select, Shirai is out of action with an injury. The nature of her injury was not elaborated on, but she also hasn’t wrestled in over two months so it might be a while until she returns. As of this writing, there are also no creative plans for her.

Shirai has been out of action for two months since NXT Stand and Deliver, and hasn’t been seen on NXT TV. After numerous inquiries over that period, a WWE source confirmed that she’s been sidelined with an injury, but didn’t elaborate on the severity of it or what it was. They also confirmed that for the time being she’d not been factored into creative plans in any way.

A source reportedly said that they hope that Io Shirai is healed up by the summer. She is well-liked in the locker room, so the talent likely miss having her around. Hopefully, her issue isn’t too bad because they could really use a veteran with her skills around.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
