Gunther is one of the most dominant performers on NXT 2.0 and there’s no denying that. The Austrian brute put an end to Solo Sikoa’s undefeated run in NXT 2.0. Although Gunther is on a roll, fans still miss chanting “WALTER” at him in the ring. That name change still baffles so many.

Gunther underwent name change earlier this year. As usual, fans on the internet did not react nicely to WWE changing his name from WALTER to Gunther. The former NXT UK Champion address the topic during a recent interview.

Gunther said to Wrestling Inc that the fan reaction did not bother him at all and that fans would have reacted the same had WWE changed his name from Gunther to WALTER. Here’s what he said.

“Not all to be honest. If it would be the other way around, and it would be Gunther before and Walter now, it would have been the same uproar. A lot of people react negatively to change. Change is normal in life, and it’s part of it, and we have to go with it.”

Gunther currently performs on NXT 2.0, where he leads Imperium in addition to working solo matches. He said he moved to America permanently following his stint on NXT UK.
