AEW’s inception came about at Double Or Nothing 2019 and since then, the company has done all it could to provide a product that true lovers of pro wrestling would enjoy. For the most part, they have succeeded, but fans feel there is a lot of things the company can still do to better their overall product.
One of AEW’s biggest criticism is certainly the company taking shots at WWE and referencing them one way or the other. This has been the case ever since it started back in 2019.
While speaking on the 83 Weeks Podcast, WWE Hall Of Famer Eric Bischoff talked about AEW President Tony Khan taking shots at WWE often. Bischoff blamed Khan for the constant criticism of WWE.
“So if you’re a loyal AEW fan and you want to be on that train, you’re going to do what Tony Khan does, and what a lot of top talent do on a weekly basis on social media as well as on their TV show, and you will be taking shots and trying to bury the competition. That’s where it comes from, and people want to pile on and then they argue about it on social media. That’s where it comes from, in my opinion.
People want to see WWE get their comeuppance. Talent within AEW, including Tony Khan, are constantly taking shots at WWE in order to build more loyalty within their own brand. Again, not a criticism, but it is simply a cold hard fact, that’s where it comes from.”
Eric Bischoff also previously stated that fans connect to AEW, unlike WWE. There is no doubt AEW will keep on striving to better their product so that fans remain happy for as long as possible. With Tony Khan at the helm, the company is going through a lot of changes over the past few months. We will have to see just how the company will change in the coming years.
