Asuka has been one of many names rumored to return at the upcoming WWE Royal Rumble premium live event. The promotion has had a difficult time filling the 30 available spots for the women’s Royal Rumble match. Even Mickie James was recruited as the reigning Impact Knockouts Champion to get more bodies in the ring.

Every year at this time there are rumors about who might or might not appear at the Royal Rumble. Asuka is not a surprising one. The Japanese star has not appeared on WWE TV since July of 2021.

A report by Fightful Select noted that several WWE talents believe Asuka will return at the Rumble. WWE has not commented on the potential for her to compete. The company is definitely discussing bringing her in for the event.

“There are several talent within WWE that are of the belief Asuka will make her return at the WWE Royal Rumble, though Fightful has been unable to confirm that. As is usually the case during Royal Rumble week, WWE is tight lipped or not responsive to inquiries about potential surprises or returns. We can confirm, however, that her name was at least discussed internally as a potential Royal Rumble entrant.

Asuka has not appeared on WWE television since WWE Money in the Bank way back in July, which was her only WWE match since the brand returned to live event touring in 2021. She’d been battling an injury since then, with few if any updates filtering in about her status despite numerous inquiries. We’ve not heard if she’s been cleared or not, outside of the fact that her name was pitched internally.”

To be fair, Asuka’s name trended on social media in recent memory as fans discussed her upcoming return. The Royal Rumble seems to be a perfect spot for that to happen.

There’s nothing like the excitement of guessing who is going to show up for the Royal Rumble. There should be plenty of huge surprises this year as plenty of spots remain in the women’s match. We’ll see if Asuka is among them.
