Wrestlers have been finding themselves as the victims of frequent social media hacks recently. Lance Archer had to set his Twitter to private after the account was flooded with messages offering merchandise to fans. It’s a major inconvenience in a job where social media is so important.

Sneaker culture has also been on the rise among wrestlers. The Young Bucks are famous for their expensive shoe collections. Grapplers are always on the lookout for the latest pair of rare kicks.

It comes as no surprise that the recent wrestling hacks have often been due to a specific type of scam, according to a tweet from Sean Sapp of Fightful. The crooks offer a link for the wrestler to receive free shoes. The offer is apparently too enticing to resist for some.

“Several of the wrestlers getting hacked are due to a free shoe scam. They have you go to a site, log in with your Twitter/IG and steal your password.”

Bray Wyatt and Omos have had their social media accounts hacked recently. It is unknown whether the shoe scam was the reason. Pro wrestlers are probably being much more discerning about what links they’re willing to click.

Online scams are nothing new. They’ve been around for as long as the internet. In the world of social media, athletes and celebrities are often targets and must remain extra vigilant.

What do you think of the scam being run against pro wrestlers? Let us know in the comments!
