Zelina Vega had a huge online presence during the end of her last run with WWE. She was released from her contract with the company in November of 2020 after refusing to give up her side gig as a live streamer on Twitch. In the Summer of 2021, she returned to WWE. Since then, she’s been crowned Queen and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Carmella. Despite the success, Zelina has even bigger goals, and she’s given up a lot to try and reach them.

Vega said she returned to the company because she felt like she had unfinished business. It was her childhood dream to be a champion. Vega had her sights set on becoming a major star for WWE, sharing main events with the likes of Sasha Banks and others.

It had to be a tough decision for Vega. She walked away from the huge money she was making with her live-streaming career to chase a dream. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer ran down exactly how much she gave up to go after her goals in WWE.

“There was a leaked data breach at Twitch which showed company payouts over the two year period from September 2019 to September 2021 to pro wrestling personalities. Basically, there is money in this, but if you aren’t Paige, Zelina Vega (who no longer can do it) or Adam Cole, it’s not big money.

Over the two years, Saraya Bevis (Paige) was paid $478,224, Thea Trinidad (Vega) was paid $341,748, but is no longer allowed to do it. Cole was paid $318,080. Others listed were Impact Wrestling at $69,140, Tyler Breeze at $43,755, Evil Uno at $35,742, Colt Cabana at $32,479 and Xavier Woods (who also is no longer allowed to do it) at $25,431.”

Zelina Vega has made a great sacrifice in the name of chasing her own personal goals. The decision surely wasn’t made lightly. Time will tell if Zelina Vega’s gamble to become the best will pay off in the end. She gave up a ton of money and doing something she loves in pursuit of a personal dream, and that must be respected.
