AEW’s Reaction To Kevin Owens Signing New WWE Contract

Kevin Owens choose to sign new multi-year contract with WWE despite widespread belief he would join AEW when his deal expires. That doesn’t mean the higher ups in the Boston-based wrestling promotion are not happy with his decision to stay with his current employer.

Owens, 37, recently renewed his contract with WWE. He signed a multi-year deal with the Stamford-based wrestling promotion. His previous contract was set to expire in January 2022.

According toFightful, several people within the AEW including those who had previously gone public about wanting Owens to jump ship in 2022 are happy with his decision to stay with WWE.

Fightful also spoke to several involved with AEW, including a couple that had been open about wanting Owens to make the jump. Most everyone was happy for him and believed that AEW would be on the table whenever his deal was up, and it was said that he maintains good relationships with many people there. One AEW source stated that “anyone who knows Kevin knows his priorities are with his family first, so you have to be happy for him.”

It was previously reported that WWE had expressed great interest in retaining Owens and made him an offer that AEW couldn’t match. Owens is set for a fatal-four way match against reigning WWE Champion Big E, Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins at the upcoming Day 1 PPV event.
