The Lucha Bros were set to take on FTR on the December 1 AEW Dynamite for the tag team titles. Unfortunately, Pac was last-minute replacement, as Rey Fenix had some issues. We now know what the specific issue was that kept Fenix off the show.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason Fenix wasn’t there was because he had a visa issue. This was not really an injury as they alluded to on television. The match was then changed to a non-title, single fall affair. The title match was scheduled for 2-out-of-3 falls.

“The reason the AEW tag title match with Penta & Fenix vs. FTR didn’t take place on 12/1 (for 12/3 Dynamite) was there is a visa issue with Fenix. They announced he had an injury that wouldn’t allow him to fly in. Pac replaced him so it was a non-title one fall match and not the 2/3 falls that was advertised for the title match on Rampage.

Fans live all thought it was 2/3 falls until the first fall went past 15:00 and they kind of figured it must be the only fall given the one hour time of the show. FTR won since it wasn’t for the title and they’ll likely do the title match when Fenix can come in”

Penta and Fenix hold the AEW World Tag Team titles, winning the straps from the Young Bucks at the September 5 All Out PPV. They also held the AAA World Tag Team titles until they lost them to FTR (disguised as frogs) on the October 16 Dynamite. The AAA title reign lasted for a record 853 days.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the match. Changes in plans due to travel difficulties aren’t uncommon in wrestling or any business. Once Rey Fenix is available, the match will most likely be rescheduled.
