Raquel Gonzalez has already seen a lot of success in NXT. Her recent transition from the silent enforcer to the babyface leader of the NXT Women’s Division has been quite a transition for Gonzalez’ character. She might have Braun Strowman to thank for some of that creative inspiration.

The NXT Women’s Champion talked to Yahoo Sports recently. In the special Hispanic Heritage Month interview, Raquel discussed how her boyfriend Adam Scherr (formerly Braun Strowman in WWE) helped her with the creative side of wrestling.

“Even just being around Braun Strowman and having that time to pick his brain, being a bigger person and character in the ring, it helped me get a better grasp of the kind of wrestler I wanted to portray myself as when I stepped into the ring.”

Gonzalez then went into about how Scherr worked with her as she made the turn from heel to fan favorite. The champ said the transition was easier than it sounds. Becoming more vocal and being herself, she said, was the key.

“I think the transition from heel to babyface hasn’t felt too different. I feel like I am still being true to myself. Another big change is being more vocal. When I was a heel bodyguard, I was silent and kind of kept to myself. Now, I can open up about me, my character and who I am.”

Raquel Gonzalez has been one of the most consistent performers for the WWE brand since it was relaunched as NXT 2.0. Gonzalez defeated Frankie Monet on the September 28 episode of NXT. Mandy Rose will challenge Gonzalez for the title at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 26 in a “Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal” match.
