WWE saw the return of Harry Smith, better known as Davey Boy Smith, Jr., during a dark match before their first paid SmackDown crowd in 70 weeks. Fans have not seen him since, but there were other plans for him when they first started talking.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Smith signed with WWE in April, but they asked him to keep it quiet. The company also requested that he cancel all of his indie dates, which he did. John Laurinaitis recruited him hard, but Tony Khan also spoke to Smith.

It was reported that the orginal plan for the British Bulldog’s son was to come into NXT UK for a feud with WALTER. The pandemic put a stop to that, and then Smith debuted on SmackDown after Johnny Ace pulled for it.

He had met with Tony Khan at a party and Jim Ross has always been a big proponent of his. The original idea was for the NXT U.K. brand and be the top U.K. babyface and feud with Walter over the title, but COVID changed all that. Laurinaitis pushed hard for him to be on the main roster and Vince wanted him on Smackdown

We’ll have to see when fans actually see Harry Smith on television. He has only performed in that tag team dark match so far, but he has signed a deal with WWE and he is back. The big question is which brand he will appear in and how they will implement him into the current landscape.
