We are very sad to lean about the passing of Melissa Coates, better known as Super Genie. She was commonly attached with Sabu later on in her career. This is a sad loss to take, as she passed away at 50-years-old. As of this writing, no cause of death has been confirmed.

Coates was a former WWE developmental talent and she just celebrated her 50th birthday. Much of her recent exposure experienced as she led Sabu to the ring.

She was inspired after watching Martina Navratilova; someone who encouraged Coates to start weightlifting at the age of 15. She entered the tennis world after that and saw success in bodybuilding as well.

Super Genie entered the pro wrestling world, training under Killer Kowalski and the Ultimate Pro Wrestling Ultimate University. Then she signed with WWE in 2005, but she did not see much more than appearing in a Master Lock Challenge on the main roster. She left WWE in 2007 after a stint in OVW, WWE’s training territory at the time.

Our thoughts are with Super Genie’s family and friends during this incredibly sad time.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
