Tony Khan really wants AEW Games to be a success. The company made substantial money last year, but they also came out way in the red. This was due to the 8-figure investment that AEW dropped on their video games division.

While speaking to PW Insider, Tony Khan fired back at critics of AEW’s choice to go all in with video games. He sees it as a bigger investment that will “pay off huge.” So far the company has dropped one mobile game and the GM app is in development. Everyone is pining for that upcoming console release, whenever it does come out.

“It’s crazy because that’s going to be an even bigger investment that’s going to pay off huge. I have made this huge eight figure investment into video games, but we won’t see any revenue from that until 2022. That’s why it’s not going to pay off in 2021 on our books.”

“We are going to deliver a great game for people next year and are going to make a ton of money. We’ll be very profitable on all things next year.”

We’ll have to see how AEW’s first console game works out. Their joint effort with Yuke’s made so many very happy about the possibilities down the line. They need to bring something strong to the marketplace, because they have hyped the game a lot so far.

AEW is a relatively new company and they are already investing a ton in their future. That video games division investment could pay off huge, but they also need to be careful because keeping the goodwill of video gamers is sometimes a tricky obstacle course to navigate.

What’s your take on AEW investing so much cash in video games? Sound off in the comments!
