Jake Crist is no longer bound to any contract and the free agent recently found himself working in South Carolina. It’s a good thing that he did, because Crist found himself saving a life.

When they were headed home, they noticed a car had wrecked into a concrete pillar. Jake got out to help the man out of the car, and it happened just in time. The vehicle burst into flames and emergency personnel arrived just in time to take care of the rest. Thanks to Jake Crist things were not as bad as they could have been.

I was working in Rock Hill, South Carolina for PWX. I had two buddies (Bobby Olsen and Dave Ashburne) with me to help make this drive because I have a show in Indianapolis tonight. We were driving home 00 77 North about 5 miles into Charlotte, North Carolina when we passed a blue truck that had wrecked into a concrete pillar.

I told David to pull over because the truck started to catch fire. I jumped over the median ran about 50 yards to a woman screaming he’s in there! She was trying to open the back door on the drivers side. I immediately opened that door and didn’t see anyone. Then I opened the drivers door, that’s when I saw a pair of feet, by this time the whole truck was engulfed in flames, I grabbed his ankles and started pulling him out of the burning truck. David makes it to the truck and I asked him to grab his wrist to help me pull him to safety. When he grabbed his wrist, he couldn’t hold on because it was like touching a stove burner that was on for a while…… So I had him grab an ankle and we pulled him about 40 feet from the burning truck. What felt like a minute or two passed and the whole truck was engulfed flames. Help arrived at the scene. Charlotte’s emergency crew was amazing and were the the burning truck. We waited for the fire to be at out and made sure the man was loaded into the ambulance, as he was still breathing. I gave my information to the Charlotte Police Department and after the officer says to me as she is shaking my hand, you’re a hero.

Not many people would have taken the same kind of action that Jake Crist did. Thankfully, he happened to be driving along so he could spring to action just in time.

This is a pretty cool story of heroism that we don’t hear very often anymore. Kudos to Jake Crist for sending out this story. Hopefully, the man was okay after that terrible car wreck. Crist was called a hero out of the experience, and many more are likely to feel the same way about what he did last night.

What’s your take on this situation? Would you do the same as Jake Crist did? Sound off in the comments!
