AEW star Jon Moxley made a name for himself in WWE, where he was known as Dean Ambrose. Together with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, the three debuted on the main roster back in 2012 and were known as The Shield.

The Shield would go on to become one of the most dominant and popular stables in the history of the WWE and truly elevated that statuses of all three Superstars involved. The Shield would break up and reunite on a few occasions. After Jon Moxley’s departure from WWE back in 2019, it seems the Shield is done for good.

While speaking to Metro, Jon Moxley talked about The Shield and why it was so successful in the first place. He then discussed why it will be for WWE to create another stable like The Shield due to NXT’s current system. Moxley added that The Shield was the last ‘big act’ that was made in the old system of NXT.

“Anything could work. I mean, it’s different because you’re a known commodity on NXT now, whereas when we came in we were complete nobodies. So, there’s a benefit to that. On the one hand, nobody knows who you are, but on the other hand, you have a completely fresh slate, you’re a complete mystery. You can come right in and starting whooping whoever’s a** you want.”

“The Shield might be the last big act that came from that old way of doing things before NXT really. You can do anything with anybody if you commit to them. The problem is – it doesn’t matter if they’re on NXT, if people know who they are or they don’t. If somebody’s getting over, you’re giving them the opportunity to get over, you’ve got to actually follow through on pushing a guy or girl,”

Jon Moxley is currently content working in AEW while Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns continue to be top Superstars in WWE, with Reigns being a very dominant WWE Universal Championship.
