AEW has a growing roster of talent and they are looking to expand. They have elected not to re-sign Awesome Kong’s deal. This came after she hadn’t appeared for the company for about 16 months.

Kong had to take off from AEW due to an injury and to film the final season of GLOW. That season was nixed after only two episodes due to the pandemic. She never made a return to All Elite Wrestling after that.

Dave Meltzer reported that Awesome Kong is no longer with AEW. Fightful Select has confirmed this and also reported that Shanna is also no longer with the company.

Kong was not cleared to compete and AEW pushed the split of the Nightmare Collective, Brandi Rhodes’ stable, after that. Then Awesome Kong was quietly removed from television, and the roster just recently.

It was originally discussed that Awesome Kong might be made into an AEW coach, but then that did not materialize for her.

There was some hope that AEW could arrange Aja Kong vs Awesome Kong, but that didn’t happen. Now Awesome Kong is a free agent and no longer bound to an AEW contract.

Are you surprised that Awesome Kong didn’t do more in AEW? Sound off in the comments!
