Hikaru Shida is set to defend the AEW Women’s World Title at Double or Nothing. AEW is also set to honor Shida with a special segment on Dynamite next week. There is a very good reason for that.

Shida won the AEW Women’s World Title from Nyla Rose at Double or Nothing last year. Now Shida has officially held that title for a while calendar year.

Hikaru Shida is the third AEW Women’s World Champion, and she is also the longest-reigning champion by far. Riho was the company’s first champion and she lost that title to Nyla Rose 133 days after winning it. Nyla Rose held her title for 101 days before dropping it to Shida.

Britt Baker is focused on taking that title away from Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing. Win or lose, Hikaru Shida still carried AEW through much of the pandemic as AEW Women’s World Champion and she has nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to the importance of her title run.
