WWE released Drake Wuertz from his contract this week, and not a ton of fans were surprised. He was known for his outspoken opinion spreading unfounded QAnon conspiracy theories. His anti-vaxxer and anti-masker agenda was at the forefront of everything he said, and that didn’t win many people over in the black and gold brand.

Wuertz had responsibilities taken from him in NXT as he was demoted. He also took off the week prior to his firing so he could attend a school board meeting and argue about mask mandates.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, some NXT Superstar refused to get in the ring with him as their referee. They didn’t want him around because he isn’t vaccinated and publicly proclaimed his aversion to wearing a mask.

There were issues as some talent didn’t want to get in the ring with him as referee because he refused to get vaccinated. He was in the news when they were putting together new rings and he and others didn’t wear masks and there was a COVID outbreak a few days later in NXT that impacted a lot of segments on TV the next two weeks.

Drake Wuertz got to work in hurry trying to secure new dates in the pro wrestling world. We will have to see if he gets any bookings. He did come into WWE from the deathmatch world, so there’s always the chance that fans could see him take a bump through a door, bundle of light tubes, or plate glass window soon enough.
