During AEW Dynamite this week, Christian Cage was approached by Matt Sydal backstage. After a little banter back and forth, they set up a match for next week. It’s very likely that match is the result of a change in plans.

Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that, due to the direction they were going on Dynamite, it’s very likely that Ricky Starks was supposed to be in that match with Christian instead. They have been building tension between Starks and Christian in the past few weeks.

Now Christian will have to prove that he can outwork everyone with Matt Sydal instead of Ricky Starks. Hopefully, Starks will heal up quickly and get back to action soon.

As we previously noted, Tony Khan wanted to give Starks the green light to perform until Doc Samson stepped in and ordered testing. That is when they discovered Ricky Starks’ neck injury.
