AEW introduced Sting as a huge surprise during Dynamite, but TNT wants time to promote things.

During Talk is Jericho, Le Champion revealed that TNT wasn’t very happy with Sting being a big surprise. They asked AEW not to do that again which is why Paul Wight’s debut for the company was revealed in advance.

“When Sting was a surprise, [TNT] was like ‘don’t do that again.’ That’s why Paul Wight was announced on social media because TNT said, ‘We don’t want surprises, we want to take advantage of the ratings.’ We had a big surprise, a big announcement, and we used the big announcement to announce the next big surprise. I think that’s one of the reasons too, to spread it out a little,”

Sting has been featured on TNT consistently since his debut. The television company obviously wanted to take advantage of that promotion and saw a wasted opportunity to get even more viewers. Instead, AEW did things their own way and surprised everyone like they did with The Icon’s debut.
