Otis had a great start to 2020, and the middle of the year looked good as he headed through WrestleMania 36, but then his push stopped to a great extent after winning Money In The Bank. He did wrestle during the Royal Rumble match, but that wasn’t the original plan.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was quickly running through tidbits about the Royal Rumble. He mentioned that Otis wasn’t originally supposed to be in the Royal Rumble match.

“Otis was a last-minute addition, there are also probably a couple of other things that happened.”

Otis didn’t win the 2021 Royal Rumble match, but at least he was included. Others, like Angel Garza, were pulled from the match.

The Heavy Machinery member was once looked at as a breakout babyface, but now he’s apparently lucky to be included as a throwaway entry in the company’s big annual over-the-top rope match.
