Drew McIntyre is set to defend the WWE Title against Goldberg at the Royal Rumble. The Scottish Warrior has a big fight against him on Sunday, and Goldberg wants to make sure that McIntyre is worthy to carry the torch.

While speaking to TMZ Sports, Goldberg was asked if he plans to treat McIntyre like Dustin Poinier did Conor McGregor at UFC 257. Goldberg said their accents do bind them in a way, but he approves of McIntyre’s path much more than the one Notorious decided on.

“In a lot of ways, but Drew McIntyre presents a totally different package from Conor McGregor. That accent is certainly a binding trait, but you know, I think Conor, I don’t know I can take my hat off because of his ability and marketability, but the route that he choose I’m not a big fan of.”

“I actually like Drew and what he’s done, but I have to know in my mind that he’s ready. That’s all. If I’m going to pass the torch to one of these guys and for them to take the place of a character like Goldberg this son bitch better be ready to show me that he’s worthy of that position.”

We’ll have to see if Drew McIntyre can topple Goldberg at the Royal Rumble. The current betting odds could be an indication if that is likely to happen. You also never know what kind of explosive offense Goldberg will show up with because he doesn’t get paid by the hour.
