There was a time in WWE’s NXT brand when The Ascension was the longest-reigning NXT Tag Team Champions. 2013 was a long time ago. Now Konnor and Viktor are no longer WWE Superstars.

The Ascension didn’t receive the same push on the main roster as they did in NXT. Their introductory promo threw shade at legendary tag teams of the past and it seemed to be downhill from there. At least they received a call-up.

The Lewis Nicholls Show recently spoke to Viktor when he revealed that there were concerns in his brain that his main roster call-up was actually going to be his WWE release. They company didn’t release him at that time and the Ascension got a main roster call-up.

“That very day, at that moment, I thought they might fire me. Nobody had said anything like that, I just always had that fear in my head like, ‘Hey, you’ve been in development all this time, we tried, too bad, see you later.’ It was odd that day because we had done live events (on the main roster) right before we lost the NXT Tag Team Titles.”

“That was the first time I had gone on the road and I had been in developmental for almost five years. I had so much doubt that it would ever happen. We were just waiting and we were told, ‘you guys are good, just stay healthy,’ but there wasn’t communication of what was happening. It was frustrating. That day it was like [Triple H said], ‘You’re coming up, finally talked the old man into it. He saw the pay-per-view and thought it was awesome. He gets it.”

WWE took their time calling up the Ascension. Then they were pushed down the totem pole in a quick way. Soon it was rare to see the former NXT Tag Team Champions on Main Event.

Konnor and Viktor had a short opportunity to show more of their personalities as a part of the Fashion Files vignettes. Things still didn’t pan out and they were release from the company after sitting at home for far too long.
