WWE needed to change a lot of plans when the novel coronavirus popped up and everything screeched to a halt.
This year will mark the second in a row that WWE didn’t hold a Mae Young Classic Tournament. There is a chance that wasn’t planned to be the case.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that the 2020 Mae Young Classic might have been nixed along with so many other plans.
“Well, there might have been a Mae Young Classic scheduled for this year. There might have been a Mae Young Classic if not for all of this happening.”
It was noted that COVID-19 caused a lot of changed plans for “both companies” when referring to AEW and WWE. The Mae Young Classic might have been a part of those plans.
We’ll have to see if WWE can arrange another all-female tournament. They were able to discover a lot of talented women that might not have otherwise been on their radar.
