John Cena will be coming back to Friday Night SmackDown on the day after Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia. He will be wrestling at WrestleMania too, but his opponent might not be who most would think.

Dave Meltzer said during Wrestling Observer Radio that John Cena’s WrestleMania opponent is “so underwhelming it’s ridiculous” this year. He told co-host Bryan Alvarez that he was told who will be facing Cena, but he wanted to wait to see if it’s true.

Alvarez guessed Elias and King Corbin as Cena’s opponents. Meltzer said it’s not Corbin before asking him how he guessed Elias. This was followed by them talking about why Elias doesn’t make any sense, but he’ll “get the John Cena rub” by losing to him at Mania.

It was later confirmed that Elias is currently pegged to face John Cena at WrestleMania this year.

We’ll have to see how this angle turns out. One of the more curious parts is that one would assume Elias will have to turn heel unless WWE has some other way to initiate this match. Elias has been getting big babyface reactions recently, but it’s highly unlikely that Tampa will boo Cena in April.
