Chris Jericho is Le Champion of AEW, but he also plays a role as The Painmaker in NJPW. Jericho has a big match slated for Wrestle Kingdom 14 and his opponent might want to make a jump to AEW afterward.

Hiroshi Tanahashi will face Chris Jericho on night 2 Wrestle Kingdom next year. January 5th, 2020 could also include a match that finds its way to All Elite Wrestling because if Tanahashi can beat Jericho then he wants a shot at the AEW World Title.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Tanahashi said that Jericho is a champion “over there.” As you can read his quotes translated from Japanese he seems to refer to AEW as a “forbidden door” as well.

“Isn’t it the champion over there? If I win and say the other is” one more time, “then you can say” get a belt “. Then the forbidden door will open.”

We’ll just have to see what is next. The best thing would be for both companies to work together. Both AEW and NJPW could make a lot of money with a union of some sort. 2020 could be interesting.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
