The XFL is coming back in 2020. Vince McMahon might have promised to keep WWE and his relaunching football league separate, but it’s just too hard to pass up a good cross-promotional opportunity.

During Friday Night SmackDown this week in Brooklyn, they plugged the XFL in a big way. Fans reported that WWE showed a number of New York Guardians commercials on the big screen. Then they set up a contest for tickets as Brad Shepard explained.

I’m told in the arena at #WWE #SmackDown tonight they just showed a number of @XFLGuardians advertisements on the tron and the ring announcer did a promo on it with a contest for tickets. There’s also a booth set up in the arena too.

The XFL is coming back in 2020 so we might see more cross-over activity. We’re not sure if the XFL is paying WWE for the plugs, but it’s logical to assume they might get a discount since both companies are owned by Vince McMahon.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
