After last week’s huge episode that went head-to-head with AEW: Dynamite and saw the NXT return of two former NXT Champions in the form of Finn Balor and Tomasso Ciampa, this week’s episode has a lot of momentum riding into the second week of the Wednesday Night Wars.

How will the return of these two huge stars impact the NXT Title scene? Adam Cole has defended his championship against all challengers, including Akira Tozawa, Jordan Myles, and Matt Riddle. Who will be first in line for a shot against the Panama City Playboy?

Also tonight, one of the most notable performers from the NXT Breakout Tournament, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott will go up against The Messiah of the Backbreaker, NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong in a non-title match.

After the 6-Man Tag Team Match between Imperium and Kushida and Breezango two weeks ago, Kushida was surprise attacked from behind by WALTER. This week, the WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER will go one-on-one with Kushida. Will The Ring General get rid of the thorn in his side, or will the Japanese superstar get another victory over the leader of Imperium?

Finally, Drew Gulak will defend his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against the returning Lio Rush. The Man of the Hour made his return to the WWE with a win in a #1 Contender Match against Oney Lorcan. Will the 23-Year-Old-Piece-of-Gold win his first championship in the WWE or will The Philadelphia Stretcher reign supreme?

It all happens tonight, and we will begin coverage when NXT goes live on the USA Network at 8:00 PM EST!

Opening Segment

We get a recap of the 3 NXT Championship matches from last week and the returns of Finn Balor and Tommaso Ciampa.

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak vs. Lio Rush for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship

Lio Rush starts with speed, hitting a huge Spanish fly and a tope to Gulak on the outside. Rush follows it up with a moonsault to the outside and goes for springboard offense, but Gulak catches Rush and is able to slow him down and bring Rush to the ground.

Rush goes for a rollup, but Gulak counters it into a submission hold. Rush fights out of it, but Gulak hits Rush with a knee strike to the midsection. Gulak gets Rush in a crucifix rollup pin for a 2 count, but keeps the hold and locks in another submission. Rush escapes the submission, but is slammed by Gulak for another 2 count pin.

Gulak goes for a leg-based submission, but Lio reverses it. Gulak places Rush on the top rope in one corner. Lio pushes Gulak off the top rope, but Gulak hits Rush with a kick, sending him toppling out of the ring and we go to a picture-in-picture commercial break.

Rush makes it back into the ring, but Gulak is laying in wait, hitting Rush with a flying clothesline from the corner, which gets him a 2 count pin. Gulak locks in a headlock, but Rush fights out with a jawbreaker and a kick to Gulak’s legs. Gulak lifts Rush into a toture rack, but Rush gets out of the hold. Gulak locks in another headlock on Rush. Rush fights out of the headlock with a series of strikes, following it up with a tornado DDT. And goes for a series of PKs, as we return to full picture.

Gulak catches a leg and hits Rush with an inside-out lariat for a two count. Rush goes for a matchbook cover for a 2 count and goes for a springboard stunner, but Gulak catches Rush in a Gu-lock. Rush reverses the Gulak into a chancery, but Gulak gets out of it. Gulak gets Rush in a torture rack and drops him for a series of 2 count pinfall attempts.

Gulak places Rush on the top rope and goes for a superplex, but Rush strikes Gulak in the head, forcing Gulak down to the mat. Rush hits a Final Hour Frogspalsh, then hits the Come Up springboard stunner. Rush hits another Final Hour Frogsplash for the 3 count and the win.

Winner and new NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Lio Rush

William Regal comes out to the ring and presents Lio Rush with the Cruiserweight Championship, wrapping it around Rush’s waist. Before Regal can pin it, Gulak reenters the ring and snatches the title out of Regal’s hand. Gulak presents the championship to Lio Rush, and William Regal places the championship on Rush’s waist.

Backstage, Kushida is shown warming up with Breezango and WALTER is warming up with the rest of Imperium.

We get a video package hyping up Finn Balor’s previous time in NXT, including some of his best matches, when he won the NXT Championship, and we go to the first full commercial of the night.

Back from commercial, and we see a clip from the Mae Young Classic match between Tegan Nox and Rhea Ripley where Nox injured her knee. Nox is advertised and being healed and returning to in-ring next week. Tegan Nox is then shown backstage with Dakota Kai, and we are told that Kai will face Bianca Belair later tonight.

Rhea Ripley vs. Aliyah (w/ Vanessa Bourne)

Rhea immediately takes control of the match with her strength. Any offense that Aliyah gets in is completely absorbed, as Rhea Ripley deadlifts Aliyah into a submission hold, then swinging Aliyah around. Ripley plants Aliyah face first, maintaining the scorpion submission hold, and Aliyah taps out, giving Rhea Ripley the submission victory.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

After the match, Rhea Ripley gets on the mic and says that, while Shayna Baszler is a strong competitor, she has yet to face Ripley, and Ripley says that she is coming for Shayna.

We are told that a WWE Press Conference will take place this Friday, featuring Triple H, Cain Velasquez, Tyson Fury, WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, and Braun Strowman, and then we go to commercial.

Back from commercial break, and Breezango get a new construction-worker based entrance.

Ever-Rise are the scheduled opponents for Breezango, but Jackson Riker comes out with Ever-Rise. Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake then make their entrance, and the scheduled match is changed.

Breezango vs. The Forgotten Sons

Breeze starts off the match, but Cutler and Blake get the quick double-team advantage on Breeze. Blake and Cutler utilize quick tags, but Breeze gets the quick tag in to Dango. Fandango hits a Falcon Arrow on Wesley Blake for a 2 count, then tags Breeze in. Breeze looks for the Fashion Faux Pas, but Dango is pulled from the apron.

Breeze and Dango look for tandem superkicks, but Riker gets in and takes out Breeze on a distraction. Dango hits a tope on Riker, but Blake hits a tope of his own. Blake gets Dango back in the ring, and Blake and Cutler hit The Memory That Remains on Fandango for the 3 count and the victory.

Winners: The Forgotten Sons

A video package about the Keith Lee and Dominic Dijakovic feud plays, promoting a follow-up match between the two next week, and then we go to commercial.

Boa vs. Cameron Grimes

Back from commercial, we go right into the next match. Grimes immediately hits the leaping double stomp on Boa for the 3 count victory, but Killian Dain comes out, staring down Grimes. Then Dain gets in the ring and hits a series of Vader Bombs on Boa. Dain brings Boa to the announce table and slams him down. He follows it up by staring at the announce team, and he audibly says, “This is just the beginning.”

A video package from Damian Preist plays, explaining why he took out Pete Dunne, saying that he used Pete Dunne to make a name for himself. After the video package, we go to commercial.

NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott (Non-Title Match)

Back from commercial, and we go into our next match, marking the first appearance of The Undisputed Era tonight. All four members of The Undisputed Era are shown backstage, but Strong comes out to the ring alone.

Strong’s technical ability gives Strong the ability to maintain control during the match, telling Scott, “You’re in my house.” Scott follows it up with a huge kick to Strong, following it up with a 2 count. Scott hits a series of strikes on Strong, then a cartwheel onto Strong for another 2 count.

Strong is unable to get a solid grip on Scott, but Scott’s quickness allows him to hit a huge dropkick to Strong’s jaw for a 2 count. Scott and Strong trade hard strikes, but Strong hits Scott with a backbreaker. Strong goes back on the offense, hitting Scott with strikes, but Scott is able to reverse an Irish Whip. Scott looks to follow up that offensive momentum, but Strong hits another backbreaker on Scott.

Scott fights out of the corner, but Strong catches him with another backbreaker and a pin for a 2 count. Strong mounts Scott for a ground and pound, but Strong stands up and we go to another picture-in-picture commercial.

Strong whips Scott hard into the corner, and then focuses his attacks on Scott’s back. Strong gets in a submission hold on Scott, but just as Scott is about to fight out of it, Strong releases the hold. Strong and Scott trade strikes again, but Strong whips Scott into the ropes and catches him with a dropkick.

Back from commercial, and Scott fights out of a headlock with a series of kicks. Scott hits an uppercut on Strong and follows it up with a dropkick to the back of Strong’s head. Scott nails Strong with a superkick and draping DDT for a 2 count. Meanwhile, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly have made their way to the entrance ramp, cheering on Roderick Strong.

Scott hits a huge release German suplex on Strong and follows it up with a leaping kick to Strong’s face for a 2 count. Strong gets on the apron, and Scott trips Roderick up, hitting him with a double stomp to the outside.

Scott gets Strong back in the ring, but The Undisputed Era distract Scott from being able to follow up. Scott gets back in the ring and hits the End of Heartache, then locks in the Stronghold for a submission victory.

Winner: Roderick Strong

The Undisputed Era get in the ring and celebrate with Roderick Strong. Cole gets on the mic, saying that Strong was just better than Scott, but says that Finn Balor and Tomasso Ciampa cannot dethrone Adam Cole.

Velveteen Dream appears on the tron, interrupting the promo. Velveteen Dream then appears on the stage above the commentary table. Dream then says that, in 2 weeks, Dream will face Strong in a rematch for the NXT North American Championship. Dream says that Strong doesn’t “measure up,” and riles up Strong.

The Undisputed Era try to calm down Strong, but then Tomasso Ciampa’s music hits, and Ciampa comes down the ramp, dragging a crutch behind him, then gets a chair from the crowd. Ciampa gets in the ring with the crutch and chair, but The Undisputed Era hightail it out of the ring.

Ciampa sets the chair up in the ring and sits in it, mic in hand. Ciampa addresses “Goldie,” saying “Daddy’s home,” which does not sit well with Adam Cole. The Undisputed Era rush the ring but do not actually get in it, and Ciampa stares down The Undisputed Era as they retreat up the ramp.

We see a video package explaining the background to the Kushida and WALTER feud, hyping up their confrontation in the main event, and then we go to commercial break.

Back from commercial break, and we a backstage interview where Angel Garza confronts Tomasso, but Ciampa hits Garza with a strike to the face before Garza can finish what he is saying.

Dakota Kai vs. Bianca Belair

Belair and Kait lock up immediately, but Belair gets the edge on Kai. Belair takes too long to capitalize, and Kai is able to fight back with a PK and a double stomp onto Belair. Belair goes to the outside, and Kai kicks Belair from the apron and rolls her back into the ring for a 2 count pin.

Belair launches Kai into the corner and hits her with a series of shoulder tackles. Belair hits a hip toss on Kai and gets a 2 count pin. Belair goes for Kai’s hair, and then a scoop slam. showing off her strength in the process.

Kai catches Belair in a small package pin for a 2 count, but Belair comes back with a gutbuster and a 2 count pinfall attempt of her own, then we go to commercial break.

Back from commercial and Kai is in control with her kicks. Kai gets Belair in position with a kick from the outside. Back in the ring, Kai hits her with an ax kick, and then a facewash kick in the corner for a 2 count pin.

Kai hits Belair with knees to the face for another 2 count pinfall attempt. Belair gets Kai back in the corner, and Kai rolls up Belair for a 2 count. Belair gets Kai into a double chicken wing hold, planting her face first. Belair nails Kai with a standing shooting star press for a couple of 2 count pinfall attempts.

Belair gets Kai up for a powerbomb, but Kair reverses it into a rollup for 2, then hits a crucifix rollup for another 2 count. Belair dodges a kick from Kai, catching her in a torture rack and hitting Kai with a K.O.D. for the 3 count pinfall victory.

Winner: Dakota Kai

Belair gets on the mic after the match, taking issue with Ripley saying that she will dethrone Shayna. Belair says that Ripley will have to go through Belair if Ripley wants a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.

Another Lee and Dijakovic video package plays, this time from Dijakovic’s point of view, whereas the other was from Lee’s. Mauro Ronallo announces that Dijakovic and Lee will be the main event of next week’s NXT.

A video package displaying Finn Balor’s feats in the WWE, finishing it up with Finn’s return to NXT.

Next up is the main event, Kushida vs. WALTER. But first, a commercial break.

Back from commercial, and Pete Dunne gives his thoughts on Damian Priest, saying that he is not going to let Priest get famous off of the back of Dunne, and Pete Dunne vs. Damian Preist is announced for next week.

We get a short video package of wrestlers congratulating Lio Rush on his NXT Cruiserweight Championship victory backstage.

Kushida vs. WALTER

WALTER comes to the ring alone, and begins the match by throwing Kushida around. Kushida tries to take out the legs of WALTER, but WALTER manhandles Kushida, controlling Kushida and keeping him on the mat. Kushida grounds and taunts WALTER, dropping WALTER to the outside of the ring, and we go to commercial break.

Back from commercial, and Kushida goes for some springboard offense but slips and WALTER hits Kushida with a huge kick to the face. WALTER locks in a single leg crab, digging into Kushida’s back, but Kushida reaches the ropes and forces a break.

WALTER clubs Kushida in the chest with huge right hands. Kushida strikes back on WALTER, but WALTER chops Kushida in the chest and grounds him. WALTER gets Kushida up for a powerbomb, but Kushida reverses it into a DDT. Kushida catches WALTER with a series of kicks from different levels, but WALTER escapes to the apron. WALTER goes for another clubbing strike to Kushida’s chest, and Kushida goes for a sunset flip powerbomb to the outside, but WALTER blocks it and stomps on Kushida.

WALTER picks up Kushida and places him on the apron where the two men trade strikes. WALTER runs at Kushida, but Kushida drops to the floor and WALTER runs into the ring post. Kushida pops up and pulls WALTER down off of the apron to the ground with a DDT.

Kushida kicks WALTER in the face and locks in the Hoverboard Lock, but WALTER strikes Kushida in the midsection to break the hold. WALTER locks a sleeper in on Kushida, but Kushida reaches the ropes and forces a break. Kushida goes for a roll up and gets a 2 count. WALTER goes for another sleeper, but Kushida locks in another submission hold.

Kushida rolls up WALTER for a small package pin for a 2 count. Kushida kicks Kushda in the face, but WALTER comes back with a big boot and a release German suplex. WALTER hits a half nelson pump handle back suplex for a very close 2 count.

WALTER climbs to the top rope, but Kushida crotches WALTER. Kushida goes to the top rope and hits WALTER with a series of strikes. WALTER’s chops almost take Kushida down, but Kushida instead takes WALTER from the top rope down into a Hoverboard Lock. WALTER reaches the ropes with his feet and forces a break.

Kushida focuses in on WALTER’s arm and face with a series of kicks, but WALTER grounds Kushida with a dropkick and powerbomb for a very close 2 count pinfall attempt. WALTER nails Kushida with a huge ripcord lariat for the 3 count pinfall victory.

Winner: WALTER

The other members of Imperium stand at the top of the entrance ramp and cheer for WALTER. A preview for next week showcases two of next week’s matches, with Keith Lee taking on Dominc Dijakovic and Pete Dunne going against Damian Priest.

Cathy Kelly announces that Tommaso Ciampa will go against Angel Garza next week and Roderick Strong will defend his NXT North American Championship in two weeks.

NXT goes off the air with WALTER standing at the top of the entrance ramp, holding his WWE UK Championship above his head while standing with the rest of Imperium.
