AEW Dynamite

The first-ever episode of AEW Dynamite is live and kicking! Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone welcome us to the show, then run down the matches for tonight’s show. Next we see a video package hyping the match between Cody and Sammy Guevara.

Cody and Brandi make their entrance for the first match of the evening. Cody’s opponent, Sammy Guevara is out next to boos.

Cody Vs. Sammy Guevara

The match gets underway and they lock-up. Sammy takes a headlock but Cody shoots him off, then Guevara flips over Cody and almost falls. They exchange reversals until Cody rolls from the ring to regroup. Cody slides back in and Sammy poses like Shawn Michaels on the mat.

Sammy grabs Cody from behind, then shoves him into the ropes and hits a dropkick, followed by a handspring moonsault. Cody hits a headlock takeover and tries to grind Guevara. Sammy fights up and Cody drops him with a shoulder tackle, prompting Sammy to kip-up and hit a slap to the face. Cody responds with a drop-down uppercut and a snap powerslam for a two-count.

Cody applies a Figure Four leglock but Guevara gets to the bottom rope. Cody grabs the wrist and snaps it over his shoulder. Cody forces him to the corner and slaps the chest before hitting a stalling front-suplex. Cody does some push-ups to pose. Cody hits a springboard diamond cutter for a near-fall.

Cody throws Sammy over the ropes but he lands on the apron and kicks Rhodes backwards, before hitting a springboard cutter of his own for a two-count. Cody backs into the corner and Sammy hits a shoulder tackle and lands on the apron. He looks for an enziguiri but Cody kicks him off and to the floor. Brandi talks trash to Sammy while Cody hits the ropes for a suicide dive…but Guevara pulls Brandi into the dive!

Sammy slams Cody into the ring post, then back into the ring. He looks for a moonsault but Cody moves, Sammy lands on his feet and hits a moonsault. Cody knocks Sammy onto the middle rope, where Brandi hits him with her shoe, then Cody hits the Disaster Kick but Guevara kicks out!

Cody sets Guevara on the top rope and climbs up behind him, and hits an inverted superplex but again he kicks out! Cody heads up top but Sammy leaps up with him and hits a Spanish Fly but Cody kicks out. Guevara heads to the top rope and looks for the Shooting Star Press but Cody gets his knees up and hooks an inside cradle for the win!

Winner: Cody

After the match Cody leans through the ropes and kisses Brandi. Tony Schiavone comes into the ring and Cody hugs him. He’s about to interview him when Guevara gets up and shoves Cody. They exchange words, then shake hands. While they’re shaking, the AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho, runs down and attacks Cody! The two will face-off at Full Gear next month for the AEW World Championship.

Jericho whips Cody into the corner and hits a clothesline before holding his title in the air. Cody gets to his feet and Jericho hits a Codebreaker. AEW heads to commercial but we can still see a split-screen, in which Jericho talks trash before hitting Cody with another Codebreaker. Jericho hits Cody with the title over the head before grabbing an expensive camera from a fan at ringside and taking pictures of Cody, who rolls from the ring. Jericho follows after him and grabs a chair, then whacks Cody with it. Jericho slaps Cody in the face, then sets-up two chairs and powerbombs Cody onto them!

Jericho walks up the ramp and grabs a microphone. He introduces himself as the “Champion of AEW”, then we see replays of the attack.

Brandon Cutler makes his entrance, followed by Maxwell Jacob Friedman. MJF tells them to cut-off his music as he walks to the ring. He calls the fans poor and says he is the fastest-rising star in pro wrestling. He calls the fans losers and says they have the opportunity to see him wrestle. He mocks Brandon Cutler and says he looks like he should be a fan, not in the ring. MJF calls Cutler a loser and says he is better than him.

Brandon Cutler Vs. MJF

They lock-up and MJF forces him to the corner. Cutler comes out quick but MJF trips him. Cutler gets up and MJF slaps him. Cutler flips over MJF and slaps him back, then gets thrown onto the apron. Cutler shoulder tackles MJF and hits a sunset bomb from the apron to the ring.

MJF slides out of the ring and yanks Cutler’s neck down on it. He gets back inside and tosses Cutler into the ring post. MJF slows things down and punches Cutler against the ropes. Cutler side-steps MFJ and he flies through the ropes, followed by Brandon hitting a suicide dive. Cutler gets MJF back in the ring. Cutler heads up top but literally just falls off. MJF then uses the referee to distract Cutler, then knocks him down and applies the Salt of the Armbar and Cutler taps.

Winner: MJF

MJF poses for the camera before it quickly heads to commercial. Seems like Cutler may have hurt himself and they called an audible to finish the match quickly.

Back live and we’re down at ringside with Chris Van Vliet, who introduces Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes. Chris mentions that they’re working with Chris Jericho on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and Smith says, “believe it or not, Jericho is a bad guy in our movie”. Smith says they’re excited to be here and mentions the Cody match, but out comes Angelico and Jack Evans. They talk trash but Jason Mewes makes fun of the fact that they haven’t even won a match in AEW. Private Party comes over to Mewes and Smith to keep Evans and Angelico back, then the segment just ends.

We see SCU standing outside the White House in Washington, D.C. Scorpio Sky pretends to be Obama and says they’ve done extensive research and realised that D.C. is the worst town they’ve ever been to. Daniels says they’re here to do what they always do, then walk off. The camera cuts to the arena and SCU are on the stage with Tony Schiavone. They’re asked about the tag team tournament that’s currently in play, and Scorpio says they’re going to be draped in gold. Out come the Lucha Bro’s and they say they are the best tag team in the universe. They both shout their catchphrases then begin brawling but they’re pulled apart by officials on the stage.

*Commercial Break*

We see Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks sitting backstage, then the camera cuts to Jericho, Santino & Ortiz.
