Why WWE Gave The IIconics A Women’s Tag Team Title Run

The IIconics won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania and they just lost the titles last night on RAW. This came after months of them avoiding defending their titles and instead being involved in comedic backstage segments.

Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE’s possible reasoning for The IIconics title reign was simple. It might not have been the best decision for the titles when it comes to legitimizing them, but Bayley certainly came out looking great in the end.

“So now that it’s over we can say that this Billie Kay and Peyton Royce title reign was the dirt worst. Now it’s over and it’s the dirt worst. Now that it’s over, I mean what a mistake. Although I guess the idea was that they wanted to give Bayley a singles push.”

Bayley is still the SmackDown Women’s Champion and headed into a big match against Ember Moon at Summerslam. Given how Vince McMahon reportedly feels about Moon, it’s likely that The Hugger will have a good time at Summerslam as well.

We’ll just have to wait and see how things come out in the wash, but one thing we know for sure is that The IIconics are not happy at all about the way RAW turned out for them this week.
