The Rock and Steve Austin have a rivalry that will be remembered forever as one of the greatest of all time. It turns out that the heat we saw in the ring was a result of some real competition backstage.

During a recent episode of Grillin JR, the WWE Hall Of Fame announcer revealed that Steve Austin didn’t associate with people backstage on a personal level. However, while the level of competition between himself and The Rock was also apparent Ross never saw it as a negative thing.

“I never thought it was a big negative thing, Steve and Dwayne’s relationship. I would have been very, very disappointed in both those guys if they didn’t have a competitive feel for each other. Austin didn’t associate with anybody that I can remember on a personal level. He just wasn’t that kind of guy. He did his work and he went home. But I liked the competitive nature.”

The heat backstage translated to the ring in a big way as the two WWE legends left it all out there every single time they met. Now as we look back at their rivalry fans can only hope that something would connect that much in today’s market.

At least we have the memories of that great time of pro wrestling and backstage competition in WWE that drove everyone to be the greatest possible.
