Rey Mysterio announced on SmackDown Live that he will be facing Samoa Joe for the WWE US Title at WrestleMania. A lot of people were surprised with this booking decision because nobody really saw it coming.

Dave Meltzer discussed the US Title match at WrestleMania and how long the company saw this as the direction during Wrestling Observer Radio. Apparently, WWE didn’t see this coming at WWE Fastlane if you are going to take into consideration how they ended the US Title match at the pay-per-view that took place just a couple of weeks ago.

“To show you how short-sighted or how far this booking went Joe choked Rey out at the last pay-per-view to win when you had R-Truth who could have lost or Andrade who could have lost that are going nowhere. So that tells you on the day of the last pay-per-view there’s no way that this match was planned.”

“Now by that Tuesday when Rey goes and beats [Joe] in that tag [match] it probably was.”

Rey Mysterio will get a great opportunity at WrestleMania to walk out of MetLife Stadium with his first WWE United States Championship. It will be a great accomplishment to achieve, especially with his son Dominick at ringside. However, WWE might not have seen this match coming until it was decided that they were going to go this direction.
