Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis battled to a bloody finish at ALL IN that saw The American Nightmare emerging as the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. It was a very cool moment and gave everyone the feels — but then Rhodes dropped the title back to Aldis in their 2 out of 3 falls match at NWA 70.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that “The change had nothing to do with whatever may or may not be the future of Cody, The Young Bucks and others at the start of 2019.” Therefore, those of you who were wondering if Cody dropped the prestigious title because of a possible future deal with WWE or any other pro wrestling promotion — that wasn’t the reason.
The plan was always to have Cody pick up the title at ALL IN to give everyone a good story for the match. Then as agreed upon, Rhodes turned around later that next month and dropped the title back to Alidis at the NWA’ s 70th Anniversary show.
So whether or not Cody signs a new deal with ROH (which he said he’s not doing) or he moves to Hollywood to try and become a full-time actor once again, dropping the NWA World Heavyweight Championship was something that they had agreed upon when the entire 10 Pounds Of Gold series kicked off. After all, Billy Corgan’s guy is still Nick Aldis.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
