Dick Slater, real name Richard Van Slater has passed away according to Les Thatcher and further confirmed by PW Insider at the age of 67-years-old.
Slater wrestled for WWF in 1986 but left the company the following year. While he was a part of the company he used a Southern gimmick and wrestled Jake Roberts with his feud with The Snake in Mid-South being ignored. He is best known for his work in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and WCW.
He held many championships over the time of his career in just about every company he stepped foot in and his promo ability was also widely praised.
We are including a video of a match with Slater on WCW Worldwide back in August 1991 where he and Dick Murdoch faced Sting and Ric Steiner.
At this time there are no more additional details concerning the cause of his death. We are deeply saddened by this turn of events and our thoughts are with Slater’s family, friends, and fans during this sad time.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
