Tommaso Ciampa is the current NXT Champion and he’s an old-school bad guy to boot. There have been previous instances of Tommaso refusing to let WWE Shop do t-shirts for him in the past and although he seemed to give in to that one and they actually made a t-shirt perhaps he just transitioned his battle to another popular topic.
When the roster was released for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game, fans noticed Ciampa wasn’t on the list of Superstars and he should be because Johnny Gargano is in the game as are others who came into NXT well after Tommaso Ciampa.
Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that although he doesn’t know the exact reason for this, it would appear that heel Ciampa has gotten his way once again by being purposely excluded from another opportunity to receive royalties. But that seems like a ridiculous premise in reality.
“I don’t know, ok so he’s not in the game right now. I presume at some point he’ll be a downloadable character. The amount of money that they would get from that video game there’s no way Tommaso Ciampa is saying ‘I don’t want to be in the game because I’m a heel.’ No way.”
It was noted that this could be strategic marketing because Ciampa is a big enough name that they could include him in a downloadable character pack and his name would be enough to make people want to have him as a playable character.
Only time will tell if WWE and Ciampa will take his heel persona to the limit because he wants to play a total heel, but it wouldn’t be surprising to still see him end up in the game eventually.
