It is quite fitting that Lucha Central has broken the news today- on Rey Mysterio Day, that Mysterio is in discussions with WWE to return to his former employer for a three-year deal.

During a press conference celebrating Rey Mysterio Day, the lucha libre legend himself confirmed to the website that he is in talks with WWE to return under a three-year deal. While Mysterio didn’t comment on specifics, it is likely Mysterio wants to work on a part-time basis for the company.

At this time, Lucha Central is claiming Mysterio has not signed with the company and his decision to do so may well ride on WWE’s acceptance of his part-time request. Given he is a two-time World Champion in the company and has competed with them in the past for well over a decade, there is a good chance WWE will accept.

Mysterio last appeared in WWE during the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia a week before Backlash- which was to be WWE’s first co-branded pay-per-view following the 2016 draft.

It will be interesting to see how negotiations do play out. Mysterio is expected to appear at NJPW’s Cow Palace show on July 7, AAA’s TripleMania XXVI on August 25 and The Bullet Club’s All In show on September 1.
