In the ongoing WWE King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring tournaments, there’s a lot of excitement in the air to see who will end up winning the respect tournaments. However, a former WWE writer has called out the tournaments for being pointless.

Although the King of the Ring was originally designed to propel a singles superstar to the next level, the outcomes often fell short of expectations. This is especially true for Superstars such as Xavier Woods and Zelina Vega, who never really got much out of winning the tournaments.

While speaking on Sportskeeda’s Writing with Russo, Vince Russo stated that the new tournament seems to be lacking significance on a broader scale. He added that the tournaments mean absolutely nothing and it’s pointless, pointing out that all the winners can do is wear the crown.

Vince Russo goes on to call out WWE for not learning from their past mistakes and not adding any stakes or making any adjustments to the tournament to make them more interesting.

“It [King of The Ring tournament] doesn’t mean anything. What do they get? Is this another Money In The Bank gimmick? All it means is having a crown and doing this [hand waving gesture]. Why? Why aren’t they learning from that? Why aren’t they learning from past years this has really elevated or gotten anybody over? We need to, like you said, add stakes or something. I just, I don’t, that’s what I mean bro. When they are just in cruise control, and just keep doing it the same way they have been doing it, whether or not it has gotten anybody over. That’s the part that’s frustrating to me. You gotta look back and, you know, if this hasn’t been working, then you gotta make some adjustments.”

The first round matches for both tournaments have concluded and the second round will begin this week, with the finals taking place at the King and Queen of The Ring Premium Live Event on May 25th. We will have to wait and see if the tournaments will end up meaning anything this time around, since Vince Russo doesn’t think they will.
