The Backlash Premium Live Event kicked off in style as fans saw Kevin Owens and Randy Orton square off against Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. The bout featured Tanga Loa’s debut as well, but it appears unseen footage has now revealed how Loa actually botched his debut in the first place.
The opening match of the evening delivered a solid street fight between Kevin Owens and Randy Orton against Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga, keeping the crowd entertained. In a shocking twist, Tama Tonga’s brother Tanga Loa made surprise debut, creating enough chaos to turn the tide in favor of Sikoa and Tonga. Solo Sikoa seized the opportunity, landing his devastating Samoan Spike to pin Kevin Owens for the win.
WWE aimed to present Tanga Loa as a freak of nature during his debut, but a viral video online shows that he botched his exit, getting out from under the ring too late. This delay forced the referee to awkwardly arch himself backwards for a split second before Loa grabbed him, to maintain the scene’s flow. Obviously, WWE didn’t show this in their live feed.
Tanga Loa gained recognition as a member of NJPW’s Bullet Club, where he formed the Guerrillas of Destiny (G.O.D.) tag team with his adoptive brother, Tama Tonga. Now part of WWE’s Bloodline storyline, we’ll have to see how he will become integral to the angle. However, we do hope he doesn’t perform such botches again in the future.
