The Backlash Premium Live Event kicked off in the best way possible as Kevin Owens and Randy Orton faced off against Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. This intense matchup also saw the in-ring debut of Tanga Loa, and it appears his debut was in the works months ago.

The opening match delivered an electrifying street fight with Kevin Owens and Randy Orton facing off against Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. All hell broke lose during the bout but it quickly came to an end after Tanga Loa debuted, helping Solo Sikoa pick up the win for his team.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, the contract agreements for Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga with WWE were actually made together, but Tanga Loa’s transition remained under wraps because New Japan Pro-Wrestling never publicly announced his contract expiration or gave him a farewell.

“Tanga Loa’s deal and Tama Tonga’s were actually together, it’s just that (with Tanga Loa), it didn’t get out because New Japan never announced (his contract expiring), they never gave him a farewell. “WWE obviously never announces anything like this, but this is not like something from the last two weeks, this deal was decided on months ago.”
