Last week, WWE made headlines with a series of releases, and the latest departure to come to light is that of Von Wagner. Wagner’s exit marks the end of a five-year tenure with WWE, signaling a significant transition in his career.

Following his inclusion in the WWE main roster draft last year, there were questions surrounding Wagner’s status on the main roster. Despite being listed as a free agent during the draft, Wagner quickly returned to NXT without making a substantial impact on the main stage. His sole appearance on the main roster was in a top contender battle royal in May, after which he promptly resumed his tenure in NXT.

In a similar vein, Xyon Quinn, who also participated in the same match, faced a similar trajectory, with minimal appearances on NXT or the main roster until a recent loss to Bron Breakker in March.

Despite occasional appearances on WWE Raw and Main Event towards the end of 2023, neither Wagner nor Quinn seemed to have significant creative plans on the main roster. WWE sources have reiterated to Fightful Select that the recent releases primarily targeted talents with over five years of experience in the company, highlighting a disconnect between their trajectory and experience level within WWE.
