WWE appears to have significant aspirations for numerous NXT Superstars, with Ilja Dragunov being among those on the radar for potential stardom. The key question remains: how quickly will the company move to capitalize on this potential and propel Dragunov into the spotlight. In fact, a new report suggests WWE plans to push him like Gunther on the main roster.

Ilja Dragunov has ascended to become the emblematic figure of the WWE NXT brand, solidifying his status as the reigning NXT Champion since clinching the title at No Mercy 2023. Since his inception into the company in 2019, Dragunov has exhibited remarkable growth and evolution.

His storied rivalry with Gunther served as a showcase of Dragunov’s immense talent, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his transition to the main roster.

As per Corey Brennan of Fightful Select, there are presently no immediate intentions for Dragunov to ascend to the main roster. However, it’s anticipated that such a transition will occur following his eventual loss of the NXT Championship. Additionally, there’s a prevailing sentiment within NXT that Dragunov has surpassed the confines of the brand.

‘Some fans have questioned if Dragunov was willing to make the move to the main roster and cite his trips home as a reason why. At this time, Fightful has not been told of any such issue, with WWE being more than happy to accommodate Dragunov’s schedule.”

Within WWE’s overarching strategy, there’s a notable parallel drawn between Ilja Dragunov and GUNTHER by some within NXT. This comparison suggests that similar plans to propel Dragunov upon his transition to the main roster may already be in motion.

“Internally WWE sees Ilja as a prospect on the level of GUNTHER, planning to push him in a similar way once he hits the main roster.”

During his tenure in NXT, Ilja Dragunov has consistently earned praise from producers for his remarkable ability to excel with minimal direction. This sets him apart from the rest of the brand’s current roster.

According to one NXT talent, Dragunov has a unique talent for elevating anyone he shares the ring with, showcasing an exceptional understanding of the business. It was also indicated that Dragunov is widely regarded as exceptionally easy to collaborate with and is described as a “wonderful person to be around.”

Ilja Dragunov will defend the NXT Championship against Tony D’Angelo at NXT Stand & Deliver 2024 on April 6, so we will have to wait and see when Dragunov will eventually make his way to the main roster.
