Nick Dinsmore, known as Eugene during his WWE tenure, recently opened up about his departure from the company and life post-WWE. In fact he even believes that his WWE departure was the best thing that happened to him at the time.

After more than three years with WWE, he was released in 2007. Despite mainly being in the lower midcard, he found success by winning the World Tag Team Championship with William Regal.

During a recent appearance on the Developmentally Speaking podcast, Eugene disclosed the true reason behind his 2007 departure from WWE. He revealed that he was released for failing one of the wellness policy checks. Despite initial uncertainty, he considered it a blessing in disguise. Soon after, he began receiving offers to work on indie shows, eventually finding himself almost as busy as he was during his WWE days.

“I got released for being non-compliant to the wellness policy. Although I failed one wellness policy, and back then it was supposed to be three, but I know it was probably the best thing for me at the time. After that, I didn’t know what I was going to do. Then, the phone started ringing for indie shows nonstop, and I started working almost as much as I did with WWE on the indie shows.”

Eugene used to work as a coach in NXT from 2013 to 2015 until he decided to open his own wrestling school. Nevertheless, fans still hope Eugene will return to WWE in some capacity somewhere down the line.
