Sammy Guevara faced suspension from AEW following a video of his botched top rope move that injured Jeff Hardy went viral on social media. This unfortunate accident disrupted Guevara’s plans within AEW and left him sidelined indefinitely.

The incident occurred on his February 14th match against Jeff Hardy, where Guevara accidentally broke Hardy’s nose with a knee strike. However, despite Hardy not suffering a concussion, the match continued, contrary to proper protocol. As a result, AEW took the decision to suspend Guevara, consequently leaving Chris Jericho without a tag team partner.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the complexities of a proposed tag team combining Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega, which did not materialize. The plan was derailed when Omega was sidelined due to diverticulitis, prompting Jericho to link up with Sammy Guevara as his partner, only for it to be trashed by Guevara’s suspension.

Meltzer expressed his dissatisfaction with the handling of the incident, stating that medical professionals should have interfered to halt the bout rather than leaving it to Guevara. As a result, the plan for Jericho and Guevara’s collaboration was scrapped, leaving Jericho with the possibility of forming a new alliance with Hook.

“In this situation, the doctors should’ve stopped the match, and it should not have been up to Sammy Guevara to take it home. And again, like what he was told, I mean, I guess whatever it was, the fact he did a GT H and nailed the guy with the knee after the concern of concussion was one of the reasons why it went the way it didn’t end up suspended. So anyway, yeah, so that was the deal with the Jericho and Guevara team is now out the window. So I guess it’s going to be Jericho and Hook.”

As fans await further updates, questions loom regarding the length of Guevara’s suspension and the impact it will have on his future in AEW. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more!
