Akira Tozawa was part of the Cruiserweight division in WWE before he was relegated to the WWE 24/7 Title picture for years. His fortunes changed as he is now part of the Alpha Academy and he has now revealed who was responsible for him to work with them in the first place.

Throughout several weeks in October 2023, Akira Tozawa progressively became a part of Alpha Academy, aligning with Chad Gable, Otis, and Maxxine Dupri, thanks to his dance skills that won the group over. Initially designated as a junior member, he later fully joined the stable.

During this period, Tozawa has been featured on WWE Raw and has also competed on NXT. On NXT, he unsuccessfully challenged Noam Dar for the NXT Heritage Cup. The former WWE 24/7 Champion has additionally had multiple confrontations with Ivar.

While speaking in an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp leading up to WWE Royal Rumble, Akira Tozawa was asked about how the idea of him collaborating with Alpha Academy came about.

“Backstage, I was doing the Tozawa shuffle, that was random, I was just being Tozawa, natural Tozawa. They loved it. A couple of weeks ago, I realized, I rip the shirt, and people [cheer loudly]”

WWE has been able to use Akira Tozawa for years, in many different ways and it remains to be seen whether his collaboration with Alpha Academy will lead to better results in the future.
