Amid one of the busiest times of the year, WWE has managed to bring some innovation into their programming with WWE Speed. As announced during the WrestleMania XL Kick-Off Press Conference, the company had partnered with X (fka Twitter), to launch WWE Speed.

The show will consist of a series of 5-minute matches and will reportedly air every week, like WWE’s weekly television shows. WWE Speed was reported to start in Spring with the matches being taped to get them live on Friday Nights.

WWE has already taped a couple of matches before Friday Night Smackdown kicked off this week. The results are as followed:

  • Dragon Lee defeated Cedric Alexander in 4:31 minutes
  • Odyssey Jones defeated Cameron Grimes (2:19 minutes)

Footage from fans have also surfaced the internet with WWE taping matches for their new show.

The new concept brings a lot of excitement into the wrestling world. With a limit of just 5 minutes, not a lot of character work can be expected from superstars. Rather a few minutes of total action would be something millions would be excited to witness.

With two matches taped, WWE Speed is seemingly set to kick-off from tonight after the fireworks from Friday Night Smackdown settle down.
