The Rock touts himself as ‘The People’s Champ’ but he is seen as the exact opposite after Cody Rhodes basically handed him his spot at WrestleMania 40. That’s WWE’s current plan and it appears they went the extra mile to keep it under wraps.

The Rock also pushed hard for the WrestleMania 40 bout with Roman Reigns. This is because The Rock wanted to save WrestleMania 40 as the match would be true big money affair.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer clarified that The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 plan was not a result of CM Punk’s injury or Vince McMahon’s scandal. Meltzer noted that the T-Mobile Arena was booked for Thursday with The Rock long before, and it was not a last-minute change.

The arrangement was made well in advance, with an agreement reached on January 3rd. Dave Meltzer added that WWE kept the whole deal under wraps for good measure.

”I know some people want to believe the Punk getting injured and the Vince stuff is the reason for the Dwayne stuff, but I mentioned this before that’s not the case. They have booked T-Mobile for Thursday with Dwayne long ago. Like somebody there just mentioned it in passing. It’s not like you can get T-Mobile Arena four days in advance for something we’re changing. This thing is something they booked way in advance.”

‘So, this thing was, when I mentioned January 3rd, to make a date and have an agreement on January 3rd, there was pretty much an understanding well before that. So, they kept that one quiet and you know how it all plays out. Whatever it is, it’s working.”

WWE is also closely monitoring fan reactions to The Rock’s WrestleMania 40 plans. The Rock and Roman Reigns will have face-off at the WrestleMania 40 kickoff event as well. We will have to wait and see how WWE will continue to book The Rock and Roman Reigns’ feud till then.
